I wrote this post with the intention of showing mums how I can help them create a fantastic bedroom for their kid.

A mum contacted me having decided to make some changes in her seven year old son’s bedroom. As always, to deliver the best result, I have to fully understand the reasons of the desired changes and the expectations of the final project. In order to have all the necessary inforamation I ask for a questionnaire to be filled out.

In this case, what mum wanted was:

a desk for her son to study on
to improve the bedroom’s interior design.

She was also very specific about the project budget.

She confided that she had spent many hours surfing online to find ideas, moodboards, colour palettes and distibution plans. She was frustrated not being able to decide and go ahead with the project. Researching the market for furniture was an another challenge as she was coming to realize that the furniture she found were either too expensive or not of her taste.

As requested, along wiht the questionnaire I received photos of the bedroom and a floor plan made by the mum according to my instructions.

Soon we decided on the colour palette based on the kid’s preferences and the elements that wouldn’t change: the floor, the closet and the bed.

In the final floor plan, all furniture were placed around the walls so that we create a large play area. I also kept the bed elevated as it already was, because it made the play area larger and kids always love a place they use as a hideout.

Study area is formed by the desk and the library both placed close to each other so as there is no need to stand up.

All existing furnitures were used in the new project and recommend the following purchases:

desk
desk chair
a small bookcase same as the existing
wall shelves
storage for the toys
desk lamp

I added the following pieces, but they could be bought later on:

curtains
carpet
ceiling lamp
bulletin board

In addition, she would paint the room.

I also provided a detailed shopping list and the instructions for carrying out the project. Instructions covered both the preparation required before starting the project and the steps to follow during the project.
